This page is a record of all well-known, public events occurring around the city of Atalan since the spring of 982 IY. to the summer of 988IY. Player characters located within the city may have heard rumours about most of the events below. Details can be found within the Rumor Mill section of the forum. Events that are less known, or happened further away from the city, may not appear on this list.

Events during server2: High Reaches - The Early Years

Summer 988IY

  • Humanity on Eramere makes its way to High Reaches.
  • Tidal waves and a massive storm of all different weather patterns is seen as both arcane and divine magic ceases to work . Time appears to stand still for a moment, before the storm is suddenly gone.
  • Atalan is abandoned after a massive battle involving The Varpathian, the Overseers, dragons and drakes, snake people, cultists, manifestations and all the people of Atalan. The Army district has crumbled into the Docks District and the city evacuated.
  • Dragon sightings have been reported across Eramere after a massive earthquake. The skeleton of one such large creature remains in front of the burnt out shell that was once the Frothing Otter.

Spring 988IY

  • Attacks by manifestations, and severe nightmares become more and more frequent all throughout Atalan.
  • The six-race trade-town effort now called High Reaches is said to be well under way... though most humans yet remain oblivious as to where exactly it is.
  • The Syl'vae report that the threat of the Restless undead within the Tir'Ehtele forest is no more, after a sacrifice of a number of their people in a divine ritual.
  • After Halmoria threatens to withdraw aid if Valkshir and Lakoi are allowed to keep their status in Eramere within the various Atalan Organizations, Atalan declares itself self-sufficient before many Halmorians depart with the last ships to the mainland.
  • The Primus of the Obsidian Academy is missing after more oddities from The Obelisk.
  • Reports indicate the spirit has been destroyed.

Winter 987IY

  • Disturbances in the Otter well increase
  • A Volcano erupts in the Silentfire Mountains
  • The Second Obelisk is repaired, sparking a wave of Snowmaw Goblins massing upon the Snowmyst Lake, with intent to attack Atalan.
  • The Hierophant is murdered within the Docks District, cultists and manifestations are suspected.

Autumn 987IY

  • Construction of Greenhouses are complete within the Church District
  • Ships return from the mainland, bearing news and surivors of the Halmoria-Kalimvar War. Tensions increase against all Lakoi for their part in the war.
  • An Ambassador for all humans is announced - Marcus von Strathorne.
  • A strange sight in the Noble District is dealt with by the Academy.
  • An Autumn Festival is announced.
  • Harvest begins in the newly expanded farmlands.
  • Work continues in attempting to prepare for what seems might be a second Long Night.

Summer 986IY

  • Incidences increase of strange occurrences, blood runes left by cultists, and suicides.
  • While near Atalan, the Zvarkglar appear to have been attacked by strange creatures with grey skin.
  • The Obelisk has turned red, after a night of fitful dreams, and a death in the Academy. Some leave the city for a few days in fear.

Spring 986IY

  • A number of cultists and suspected cultists are captured by the Legion, one of which drawing considerable attention.

Winter 985IY

  • Explosions rock the docks after Blackspear Kobolds are seen and were beaten back. One of three ships attacked are saved by the Legion and SPM responders.
  • Dreams affect priests across the land involving three figures, and a blessing of their patron, enabling them to achieve the blessing Word of Recall.
  • The Odeum Legendas is vandalized.
  • The farmlands are secured between the Legion and Academy, allowing SPM workers and farmers to prepare the land for Spring. Construction of a wall around the farmlands begins.
  • Healers are seen more often in the Slums, as more small groups band together to take care of the injured and hungry.
  • A large second wave of riots break out in the Slums, during which the leadership of the Valkshir strike back at those inciting trouble when they face each other directly.

Autumn 985IY

  • After the riots, a powerful gang appears to have taken control over the area, with attacks on those who don't dwell in the Docks, and extortion fees taken from merchants. They leave the residents alone, however.
  • The Garritor in charge of Field Command deserts his post to fight on the side of the Lakoi. He is sentenced to the Speclatorii rather than death.
  • Riots break out within the Docks/Slums District of Atalan, pitting Lakoi against Valkshir and Halmorians in the search of hoarded food.
  • The Spirits seen earlier have been reported to have attacked ogres within the Daiobi Desert.
  • A Dark Cloud is said to have settled over the Omgi Ztehh and Eastern Tir'Ehtele. Rumours speak of a great battle at the Tella'men Bridge.
  • Orcs become even more scarce than usual.
  • An explosion is seen off the coast of Atalan.

Summer 985IY

  • Massive coordinated plans begin to be made and carried out in response to the increasing fears of famine.
  • The Charter of 985IY is signed.
  • Concerns over coming famine grow now that there have been no ships from the mainland for a number of months.
  • Tensions rise between the Legion and SPM
  • The Sewers, once sealed off, are swept by the Legion, SPM, HoCC and Academy members to slay a number of dangerous creatures within. Magic appears to have been involved with the creatures' twisted state.
  • The Odeum Legendas is officially bought out by someone outside of the Nobility.

Spring 985IY

  • On the last day of Spring, all crystals on the plains have mysteriously vanished, freeing a few captives within the settlement.
  • Strange creatures are reported rising from the Frothing Otter Well.
  • Rumours of hostile spirits and an orb being seen near the SPM farms are heard.
  • House von Atalan is recalled to Halmoria as a new noble house takes over the nobility of Atalan in a stunning takeover. Not however, before the Archduchess believed to have been dead, ousts the present Arch Duke said to have planned her death, before she too is removed from power.
  • The war in Halmoria seems to be faring poorly. Valka is cut off from the rest of Halmoria by the Kalimvarans, and rumours suggest that the Lakoi are divided on where they stand - some even going so far as to attack Halmorian ships.
  • Farms appear mostly abandoned with the lack of sufficient SPM nor Noble guards, and many other disappearances throughout the past two years.
  • The crystals continue to make their presence known, with little action being taken by many.

Winter 984 IY

  • A Winter Festival is held, sponsored by the Circle of Myths.
  • Rumours speak of the Black Spear stirring.
  • Crystals continue their occupation of the plains and Academy grounds.
  • Bloody murders in the Slums District have attracted the attention of many.
  • The Legion and Auxili restructure themselves as the Atalan Legion, with lower ranks retaining the titles and duties of Auxili.

Autumn 984 IY

  • Dangerous Gnomish creations have been seen near the ferry docks.
  • Many leave for the mainland to aid in the Halmoria-Kalimvar War, including the Legion itself, a number of mages, and templars and stewards of the HoCC.
  • Crystalline entities have made their presence known at the Torverra Plains, Obsidian Academy and the Frothing Otter Tavern, particularly during recent attacks upon them.

Summer 984 IY

  • A Council Meeting is called, soon revealing that Halmoria is now at war with Kalimvar
  • The Obsidian Academy is under lockdown, said to be host for a number of strange creatures within.
  • A number of Syl'vae are seen making an extended stay within the House of Concordant Cycles.
  • A barn becomes invulnerable on the Plains, indirectly causing the destruction of nearby houses.
  • Arctura von Atalan discovers a means of instantaneous magical travel.

Spring 984 IY

  • A massive battle by many races is said to have occurred within the Tir'Ehtele forest to stop a deadly wave of hundreds of Restless.
  • The strange sounds from the Torverra Plains at night are said to lessen.
  • The Ballroom in which the Archducal Ball is held is reduced to rubble from a cultists attack during the Ball in question.
  • Two prominent members of the Nobility are hunted for treason.
  • The Bloody Man is spotted more than once within Atalan.
  • New requirements are announced for all arcane spellcasters. Sorcerers now have the option to join the Obsidian Academy or purchase a License of Arcane Registration to be legal, during the Council Decree of spring 984IY.
  • A massive Spring Festival is hosted by the House of Concordant Cycles.
  • The promotion of Archduke Maximilian Terratus von Atalan to Archduke is announced.
  • More farmers appear missing, or mutilated.

Winter 983 IY

  • The Hierophant of the House of Concordant Cycles passes away after many strange events within the church that strained her health. Weeks later, a new Hierophant is named.
  • Claude Avarell is said to have discovered the art of magical translation.
  • A grand tournament is held by the Nobility.
  • The Nobility sells a large tract of land to the Silver Pieces Mercantile.
  • The Order of the Pathless Way hires a large party of adventurers that return form the dangerous Frostbeard Mountains with tales of Primordials, Frost Titans, and hags.

Autumn 983 IY

  • Ephaesus is revealed to provide blessings similar to many arcane spells by Bijanbeek "Beeker" Dabir.
  • The Black Horde is defeated by a coordinated strike between the Legion and those of the non-human races.
  • The Order of the Pathless Way pays the SPM a large sum of money to guard something called the Justicandrid.
  • Blood stains the Trade District after stone hands erupt from the cobblestones, where a 'copy' of a woman later explodes in front of dozens of eye witnesses. The event is said to be linked to a lightning strike in the Frothing Otter area.

Summer 983 IY

  • Rumours whisper of something being disturbed far below the sands of the Daiobi Desert.
  • Blood stains the roads as a box of all things is said to enable the wish of one man who is currently in custody, to slay 2000 people.
  • The Archduchess is found dead.
  • The members of the old Coalition destroy a Horde Camp south of the Anon'mar Bridge. Rumours indicate they may or may not work with the Legion to eliminate other sections of the Horde.
  • The nobles celebrate a grand ball, during which the Archduchess Von Atalan herself goes missing.
  • The Horde takes control of the Ferry to THIMBLE, and soon attacks both the Torverra Plains settlement and the docks of Atalan itself on the same day. The Ferry is retaken by the aid of the Gnomes and the Legion, as well as others, soon after.

Spring 983 IY

  • A Horde of karr, kobolds, taurocs, Valhurks and others masses on the Karrgath Hills
  • A grand Atalan tournament is held in which a commoner is granted the rare title of nobility as the winner of the day.
  • The city is abuzz with the discovery of a second city far away at the Snowmyst Lake, complete with a broken obelisk itself
  • Farmers begin to go missing once more on the Torverra Plains

Winter 982 IY

  • Strange, powerful, green skinned creatures attack at the Frothing Otter
  • A manifestation is caught causing havoc within the Trade District
  • An adept is slain as the madman Fener escapes the city

Autumn 982 IY

  • Violence escalates in the Frothing Otter Tavern area
  • The howl of a Black Wolf, said to be a Primordial, has shaken a number of people near the Torverra Plains and the Frothing Otter
  • A number of farming efforts have begun outside of Atalan's walls, chief among them being that of Palla Fuoco with the backing of the Silver Pieces Mercantile

Summer 982 IY

  • The Karr become more active, causing a wave of adventurer's seeking treasure and glory to seek the raiders out
  • A massive undertaking including a number of Syl'vae, Orcs, Zvarkglar, Chorav, and a few humans, clear a large wave of undead attacking the Anon'mar Bridge within the Tir'Ehtele forest.
  • The first Chorav, and the first Syl'vae, join the Obsidian Academy

Spring 982 IY

  • Strange creatures attack the Frothing Otter Inn
  • Heretics are slain by the House of Concordant Cycles
  • Meteors shower the Frothing Otter Inn
  • New fashions are all the rave
  • An SPM ship sailing to Atalan from Halmoria sinks in a distant waterway, causing a food shortage within the city
  • The Syl'vae make an appearance within Atalan
