The Circle of Myths

The information below comes from the time of Atalan the city. The Circle of Myths is no more.

It began as a simple group of human adventurers who banded together to experience the wild untamed wilderness of the New World of Eramere. At first they met in the Frothing Otter Tavern, casually. Some of the members began performing there, where they gained acclaim as bards. That acclaim, however, brought them an unusual amount of trouble as each member slowly and mysteriously disappeared one by one by some unknown hand. That was the first incarnation of the Circle of Myths.

The second incarnation was a bit more refined. Now, the members of the Circle were all anonymous, adopting style of going by their titles and wearing masks in public, presumably to protect their identities against whatever was after them. They also no longer met in only one location, holding performances and discussions throughout the city, including the Frothing Otter. This attracted the attention of the Noble Houses, who decided to patronize them, which led to the establishment of the post of a formal director. Several directors have since come and gone, cycling through the membership for various reasons. Over time the anonymity of its membership gradually began to fade away as the threat which once held over the Circle began to fade from memories.

Now in its third incarnation, The Circle of Myths has become an unstructured peerage of artists and adventurers. They are headquartered in The Odeum Legendas, with the Nobility as their primary patrons. Membership in the Circle is determined by the Director, who is in turn appointed by the Archduchess Von Atalan herself. Otherwise, any titles within the Circle are self-selective, though usually reflect that particular member's role in the Circle.

The operations of the Circle of Myths range from entertaining the Nobility and the masses, to exploring the vast expanses of Eramere, their style changing to suit their needs. Whether they do so to find inspiration for their art, or simply out of curiosity, they go forth beyond Atalan's walls in bold pursuit of both knowledge and experience. In between such undertakings, the Circle's members gather often to pass the time with discussion of mysteries and to plan new expeditions and performances.

The current Director of the Circle of Myths, or Diva, as she chooses to be called, is Daria van Ottrius.
