The continent of Eramere is a wild and untamed land of innumerable wonders and dangers. A land where the creatures known only of old myths and fairy tales are alive, where Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Halflings and Orcs have been existing for aeons, and where even the powerful art of the arcane is no longer but a fantasy. There, at the coast of the Thalassian Sea, lies the once prospering city of Atalan, proud bastion and foothold of the human settlers, before its destruction over sixty years ago.
Going southwards while sticking closely to the Amalthean Coast, you can almost make out a group of little islands, home to the industrious Gnomes and their strange creations. It is here as well that many humans have created the settlement of Torica upon Santina Bay Island. Part of Torica is claimed by the Kalimvarans in Meretokis, and the Halmorians sit nearby in New Halmor on the Island of Samaras. To the east, the dry and rocky Karrgath Hills, named after their dogheaded and terrifying raiders, the Karr, stretch on for miles.
At their southern end the unfriendly hills are interrupted by a densely forested land of great beauty and a large, peaceful river, which splits in order to surround the dangerous and swampy Daggershard Island. Here you can already feel the hot winds coming from the Daiobi Desert further south and see the mountain reaches called the Sandspires. Only the wandering Chorav know how to survive in this deadly desert; one would be wise to instead turn east in order to cross the powerful stream of Ardena and gaze in awe at the snow-covered Silentfire Mountains and perhaps the hold of the Haerkglar, Skolden'fel Stand Fortress. These mountains are overshadowed by a giant volcano whose peak is always hidden by clouds. Small streams and rivulets have broken through the rocks, carrying the cold, crystal clear water of Snowmyst Lake, which is hidden somewhere deep within the mountains. West northwest of the Lake lies the Mystwood and north from there, the multicultural city of High Reaches.
Though the mountains seem impassable at first glance, the enormous swamps stretching at their northern borders bear horrors that shatter the souls of even the bravest men. Deadly fumes of rotting flesh and death poison your mind in this place, where everything is firmly in the grasp of death and decay. The few surviving scouts telling of gruesomely mutilated undead, hostile to everything living, and cold, dead hands that emerge from the swamp, struggling to pull you underneath, never to be seen again.
It takes you many miles to the north, if you were to walk in the dark and extremely dangerous shadows of Faergol's Spine, a gigantic and impassable mountain reach to the east. Then you may finally set foot on solid ground again, a grey area called the Val'mordja Hills which are inhabited by the martial Orcs. Any path further north is blocked by the frozen Frostbeard Mountains with their beautifully shimmering but deadly glaciers. From here you have to turn west and may catch a glimpse of the great but mysterious forests that almost reach all the way to the coast and to the Torverra Plains near Atalan. Those woods are known to be ancient, full of magic and many wonders, but wisely avoided by many. This is likely due to the fact that some of the most mysterious and dangerous creatures of all Eramere, most notably the inscrutable Syl'vae, are supposed to live deep within.
The Haerkglar are the only folk that have traveled so far into the continent with their caravan treks, and not much is known of the lands they do not pass through on their way. Many strange or dangerous places are still little more than blank spots on the map, waiting for bold adventurers to discover them.
