High Reaches

The city of High Reaches was discovered in 985IY/2838EC by members of the House of Concordant Cycles. After much negotiations with all native races in 2839EC, an agreement was made to turn the town into a trading town for all friendly races of Eramere, with equal access to its abundant resources by each race. Clean up and construction progressed much swifter than usual, and soon the town was ready to begin taking in residents.

However as this was happening during the Summer of 2841EC, the town was faced with an influx of human refugees from the destruction of Atalan. The town thus has quite a number of humans, as well as many Haerkglar, Syl'vae, Gnomes, Chorav and even the occasional Orc.

Protected on almost all sides by the Karrgath Hills, the town remained unknown by all races until its discovery. It now has a main path out of the hills, connecting to the rest of the Karrgath Hills trade network of paths and roads. The city later boasted a keep, barracks, a temple, an inn, many merchants, an arcane university, an adventurer's guild, and even a bakery. Surrounded by walls or the hills themselves, there was also a large area of farmland that is tended to regularly.

The city had two main sources of water - the Thurdan'telas River that tumbles over the steep hillside in a beautiful waterfall, before flowing around the city and eventually meeting the Ardena River. The river, though small, was large enough to support a number of small boats and ferries used to get to various places all over Eramere. The second, was its large well system, boasting some of the best tasting water found anywhere.

One of its main exports however, came from the many mines located around and under the city itself. From gems and crystals, iron, copper, and gold, there are traces of each, and sometimes, larger veins. More well known though, even if rarer, is the unique metal aurichalcum, as well as a hard white marble-like stone.

The Council of High Reaches

The Council of High Reaches was made of one representative or councilor of each member race of the new charter of cooperation between all of the goodly races of Eramere. Founded after the Fall of Atalan, the original Council was made up of the ambassadors of each race. They worked tirelessly to finalize the settlement of High Reaches, and offer aid to the human refugees as they began a new venture on the island town of Torica. The Council represented the governance of High Reaches, reviewed all legal matters deemed a serious concern, provided a dialogue between all of the member races, ensured that each member race was fulfilling their end of the charter, and oversaw all new additions to High Reaches.

They also appointed a town manager, who was last Avinda Nandia.

The Militia

The Militia was a collaborative force made up of all races within High Reaches, and consisted of a City Force that tended to security inside the city, as well as law enforcement, the Field Force which was involved in scouting and threats outside of the city that would effect High Reaches, and lastly the Citizen Force. The Laws of High Reaches

The laws of High Reaches were generally simple, and were enforced by the High Reaches Militia. For cases of high interest or serious crime, the Council was typically called in to judge the perpetrator. A full listing of crimes and sentences can be found on the page The Laws of High Reaches.

The Temple

The Temple of the Hymn aided the town in various ways over the decades the city was inhabited, and was an important part of the town. The temple was overseen by a number of humans, with a few Haerkglar and Syl'vae, but was open to all.

The University

Founded by Gralin Hovis and a number of other surviving members of the Obsidian Academy, The Arcane University of High Reaches is not solely limited to the study of the arcane. It was in fact the primary school for all young residents of High Reaches as well. Teaching a variety of subjects from literacy to geography, magic and spell craft, students of all ages could be found within.

GLADTOMU

A more recent organization, GLADTOMU was an adventuring guild formed by former Ambassador Ticki Spritzlewire, with the remains of the Adventuring Force of the High Reaches Militia.
