Ambassador Lucius Marcus Gaius Flaccus

Ambassador Flaccus is, to many observers a pompous ass. He is also, however, incredibly intelligent and well connected. There are few that can match Ambassador Flaccus in either pride in the Halmorian Empire, or in display of how a “proper” high-born Halmorian citizen should behave. From the Ambassador’s point of view, this has sometimes included his current Emperor, a man who clearly does not know how to keep his emotions out of his decision making. If he did, the Lady Domitia would never have been allowed to marry Imperitor Gravius. Nor would such a young upstart have been elevated over so many other, more worthy noble Halmorian citizens.

It is this sort of thinking that led to Lucius being named to the new territory as Ambassador. Too wealthy and too politically connected (both by birth and not by merit), the Emperor could hardly renounce him as a pompous fool publicly. Nor could the Emperor deny that Lucius had a very strong grasp of all things politic or that Lucius was, above all things, incredibly loyal, regardless of personal opinions. Once peace between Halmoria and Torica was reached, it became apparent that someone would need to treat regularly with the people of Torica and Eramere. Also, the Emperor wished to send a prominent and loyal citizen to repair relations with the new races of that continent, the former noble house having made a total mess of things and bringing shame upon some corners of the Halmorian Empire.

Being sent so far from the seat of power, Lucius did all he could to avoid the appointment as Ambassador. However, given his qualifications, he could hardly openly fight the express wishes of the Emperor. He now pines for the day when he is recalled to the Empire, but as each year passes, he has begun to accept his fate. He still disapproves of Lord Gravius’ ascension, but is pleased to see the family is maintaining the ways of the Empire within their household, and that the children are being raised in proper, courtly fashion.

While Lucius may not be in the personal favor of the Emperor, his position is still one of both power and prestige. His position has also allowed him to work closely with Governor Demetrius von Halmorae as a political adviser. No one understands political landscapes better. This talent has come in handy more than once when dealing with those honor-less Lakoi and the second-class Halmorians from Eramere.
