Helga was an orphan that was saved during the fall of Atalan and for a time became a ward of the Temple. Helga spent many days running in the neighboring fields and generally getting dirty and making a pain of herself to her caretakers. During one particular outing within the city of High Reaches Helga was playing with a fellow orphan near the stream, when several of the city's children decided that they would torment and bully Helga and her friend because they were playing in "their" spot. The group of five kids tried to push Helga around but Helga was made of sterner stuff, and attacked all five kids giving her friend a chance to run. Unlike the legends of heroes, Helga did not win her battle against the five kids and was eventually pinned and beat up for daring to fight back. Before the group of kids could do more than a few punches worth of harm, they were scared off by an angry voice.

Helga awoke in a small house being tended by the leather worker Wulffgard Saebjorn. She did not speak but just made sure Helga was comfortable. Once Helga had recovered she asked Wulffgard if she was in trouble to which Wulffgard replied that she was indeed in trouble. No daughter of Wulffgard should be so easily beaten in combat and that Helga had much training to do if she wanted to keep a roof over her head. Helga was happy to accept such a bargain and readily became the adopted daughter of Wulffgard. Helga spent many years among the militia of High Reaches but she always made time to be with her mother and her leather working. In Wulffgard's twilight years Helga slowly took over the business of the leather shop until Wulffgard's passing when she assumed the title and deed of the shop and ran it in her own right. Unlike her mother, Helga can still be seen out hunting game and creatures to form her leather creations.
