Snowmyst Lake

Nestled between the Silentfire and Sandspire mountain ranges is Snowmyst Lake, named for a chilling fog that clings to its surface in the morning. Dwarves speak of the time when Caldera was still theirs, when they could safely harvest a plentiful and varied bounty of fish from the cold waters. Some enterprising and dedicated souls sail south along the Ardena River or cut a hole in the lake's icy eastern side. Those who are not slain by Snowmaw goblin patrols return with delicacies that fetch high prices across all the civilized lands.

Snowmyst is the rumored home of a massive sea serpent. There are wild tales of combat and escape, as well as more believable renditions where the serpent could be seen as indistinct, from far away; addled survivors speaking of frantic egress after the creature seemed to notice them and then submerged. The lake is also confirmed to contain an underwater, ruined city. Rumors, though ridiculed, had persisted for years of an elaborate structure that could be seen by fisherman on days when the water was inexplicably clear. The first expedition took place shortly after the successful study of a Sorcerer who can breathe water and since the site's confirmation, many more have ventured into the lake's frigid depths.

Most of those brave enough to investigate see it as a place where valuables may be harvested, though one historian who made the journey noted that architecture and remaining cultural artifacts indicate the place as one that once had a function rather than a place where people lived. He also noticed that the lake had an impossible quality. Though fresh water flows into it from the north, and though fresh water can be found in its twin estuaries that cut Daggershard Island off from the mainland, the lake itself is saltwater. This seems natural to the natives of Eramere for it is how the waters have always been. Halmorians know that the lake ought to be freshwater and some have declared it one of many Emergent Phenomena that shall be studied and understood in due time.

In recent years a new discovery has been made by adventurers, who have discovered the the second city similar in some ways to that of Atalan, with much perched above the never-melting ice on the eastern side of the lake, bears a broken Obelisk similar in some ways to that inside the city of Atalan. This city however, overrun by the Snowmaw, makes for very difficult study of the area, particularly when emergent phenomena of a dangerous nature takes place regularly in the vicinity of the broken obelisk.
