Legion and Auxili

The Army of Halmoria has had a number of conquests over the last few decades, but nothing could prepare them for all that they would find on the continent of Eramere. In time, a new division of the Legion became necessary, to maintain order within the city and investigate any disturbances. Thus formed the Auxili.
In mid 984IY, much of the Legion departed to the Mainland to aid in the Halmoria-Kalimvar War. At this point, the Atalan Legion was given more autonomy, and a more simplified ranking structure combining the Legion and Auxili began to be used.
The Legion
When the legion arrived they delved into the abandoned city ahead of the settlers, seeking to clear out any threats but were surprised to the emptiness of the place. With the city easily secured the small scout groups attached to the Legion spread out into the wild. What they found was not as promising as the city left conveniently free for them to occupy. The lands outside of Atalan were wild and full of dangers, and the Legion was small and ill equipped to maintain a guard force and meet the threats outside of the walls. So formed the Auxili, a police force to both protect the people and enforce the laws established by the rulers of the city.
The Legion itself is currently led by Imperitor Garis Silvershield on the mainland, and it was Imperitor Arimus Latronis who arrived with the first Legion troops from the mainland who took the reins in Atalan. The older veterans are war hardened disciplined troops, and were the pride of their once great empire. The army is still in good fighting shape as they are tested on a near daily basis by the dangers of the new world the Halmorians find themselves in.
In Atalan however, with the lack of proper training facilities and the lack of new soldiers being sent from the mainland, the Legion has waned over the last twenty-five plus years. The Auxilli in the meantime has stepped up to take over the duties previously performed by the traditional legionary forces.
Julius Palmer is now the Imperitor in the new Atalan Legion after most of the existing Legion left to fight in the Halmoria-Kalimvar War.

The Auxili
The Auxili once acted as the police force of Atalan, formed when the Legion decided it needed a guard force that could command itself. Still technically a section of the Legion, the Auxili ran itself, with it's own command, it's own rules, and it's own rank structure. The Auxili's mission was two fold, to patrol the city and to investigate any criminal activities. The Auxili itself was only responsible for detaining criminals, the courts handle the rest.
Most of the Auxili were Atalan Born or people who joined the Auxili upon arriving, very few of the original Legion made the switch from soldier to guardsman. Several Valkshir bolster the ranks of Auxili, but few make it beyond patrols, as they are not looked upon as capable of investigations by the Auxili brass. The Auxili did a fine job keeping most of the streets safe, though some criminal elements still persist despite their vigilance.
Rumors of a vast criminal underground in Atalan are denied heavily by the Auxili as rumors and nothing more. From all outward appearance the Auxili are a honest group, corruption is kept at a minimum by the office of the Inspector Praeto of the Army, which handles all investigations into the Auxili and the Legion alike.
The Auxili was once broken down into five offices, each ran by an Inspector Praeto. The offices include, The Office of the Army, The Office of Merchants, The Office of the Academy, the Office of the Council, and finally The Office of the Commons. Each office has specialized investigators that handle investigations within their field
After the losses suffered during the Long Night, the Legion turned to the fledgling Auxili presence, drafted from Atalans own citizens, to bolster their forces. This in turn caused the Auxili to slowly fill the role of the Legion typically held within Halmoria.
In 984IY the rankings of the Auxili at the higher levels were merged into that of the Legion through a number of promotions when the two officially merged into one force.
Auxili Ranks
Inspector Imperitor- Head of the Auxili -- no longer used.
Inspector Praeto- Assistants to the Inspector Imperitor, each responsible for a city quarter. --- title no longer used, offices absorbed into Legion.
Primo Auxili (Addressed as Primo)- The head of a precinct --- Title No longer used.
Detective- On the ground investigators
Percunctor- Leaders of patrol groups.
Patrolman - full member of the Auxili
Recruit - must prove themselves to become a full member of the Auxili
