How do I connect to Myths of Atalan?
That information can be found here: http://wiki.mythsofatalan.com/index.php?title=Play!
Do I need the expansions?
Yes, you will need both MotB and SoZ expansions in order to see and interact with everything in game. Without these expansions you may find yourself getting stuck, or being attacked by creatures you cannot see. It is not recommended.
What is the meaning of MoA?
MoA is simply, Myths of Atalan, the server on which we play and the world that it encompasses. It has also been named Eramere Rising, primarily during version 2.
Can I play in Myths of Atalan without reading the Lore?
There are a number of important aspects that are extremely relevant, and can otherwise possibly mean the permanent death of your character should you remain oblivious to them. It is recommended that you read the pertinent lore on your character's race, background location, class, and Overseer before getting started. Note that these may be different than in many other worlds.
Do alignments matter in Myths of Atalan?
Alignments are a snapshot of how others generally see your character, and are not necessarily reflective of how the character sees themselves. Alignments have a role in many spells and interactions within the world, but not always the most significant one.
Why are some races restricted?
The restricted races are considered rare on the continent of Eramere, and thus numbers in-game will at times be limited. As they have access to a different understanding of the world and the continent, the players of these races must demonstrate that they understand the basic lore of the server before entering in-game.
Are wizards and sorcerers still regulated?
The arcane was a discovery made about 600 years ago, and a dangerous one at that. With the events of the Long Night, all access to the arcane was monitored and regulated by the Obsidian Academy, and through them, the House of Concordant Cycles, to ensure it is used responsibly. Some chose to avoid such regulations, the Black Bazaar being the most notable, but were at risk of being put to death by those of the HoCC. However, humans are no longer in Atalan. It is up to the governments of each race now to determine what regulations, if any, are placed upon arcane magic users.
Can I play a monster Race?
There are currently no monster races available for player characters.
Can I play a Tiefling?
Tieflings do not exist here.
Can I have wings/a tail?
No.
Can I bring my character from Forgotten Realms?
All characters within the world of Myths of Atalan originated within it. There are no planes as understood elsewhere, for them to have come from.
How do I get a PrC?
Many PrCs are now available for all players to take once you meet the mechanical requirements necessary as posted elsewhere in this wiki.
For other PrCs that have a note stating otherwise, they are awarded by a DM after significant roleplay towards the class in question. This may be done in-game, through the forum research threads, through PMs, or all of the above. Most PrCs have multiple ways to achieve and receive them, but some may be easier to achieve through a specific organization or path. A select few PrCs may only have one possible path to achieve it, but these are the exceptions.
Can Players start their own Guilds and Factions?
Yes. However you will need to gain both a decent number of members, consistency, dedication, and great RP over a good length of time, to make such an organization official. There are requirements for such posted here.
Can I belong to more than one Guild or Faction?
We suggest that each character belong to only ONE faction. They may find that there are conflicts of interest that have real consequences that will become more apparent as time goes on if they attempt to get involved in multiple organizations. Players belonging to more than two organizations may also find themselves sometimes becoming stretched too thin, which then causes you to progress in none.
DMs reserve the right to impose a limit on any player belonging to too many organizations in order to preserve a sense of mystery and surprise, as well as to prevent metagaming.
What is the Magic Level of Myths of Atalan?
Low to medium. Many of our long-term players will own equipment with +2 to abilities, while some may find a rare +3, or even an artifact through their RP.
Does Myths of Atalan have Crafting?
Our custom crafting system is currently in development.
What is a private bio used for?
Your private bio is used for any sensitive or not publicly known information pertaining to your character history or this present time, that all DMs should be aware of. It is only visible by DMs.
Can I customize my outfit / armor?
Yes, there is an appearance change available in game within the starting hub (currently Amber Bay).
How do disguises work?

Are skills such as balance, climb, etc... used outside DM event?
Outside DM events, these skills are and will be useful as an alternative way to earn XP while you adventure in the world. For example, walking along a narrow tree trunk in the forest could require a balance check of DC 20 and then award you 10 xp on success. Another example is survival, which allows you to find secret places in the Overland map of Eramere. More of these skill checks will appear in various areas in the future.
