Reginald Skylar
From Myths of Atalan Wiki
Character Name: Reginald Skylar
Race: Human
Culture: Halmorian (ex patriot)
Age: 63 at time of death
Occupation: Head of Skylar Trading Company
Once a young member of the Halmorian military on detachment, Skylar found greater profit taking bribes than his actual duties. Reprimanded several times by his superiors in Atalan for dereliction of duty, the majority of his peers were unaware of his profiteering habits. Most simply assumed he was incompetent. But cargo routes and secure information brought more coin than being a proper Halmorian soldier here on Eramere.
When Halmoria pulled troops back for the war effort Reginald remained behind, choosing to lead a life as mercenary. At first he offered protection services for cargo transfers, primarily making routine runs of goods between Atalan and the Gnome island of TEST. In time he found himself with contacts in business all over Atalan. The Silver Pieces Merchants were obviously the better funded, and armed, trading company but even they had jobs they would not touch. They had reputations to maintain. This was not something Reginald was too worried about as long as the coin was there.
In the time since the destruction of Atalan there was a great need for supplies, and Reginald once more saw a chance to reap profit. With thousands fleeing the city, much was in chaos. There are rumors that widespread, yet short lived, that looting took place. Items of monetary and historical value have recently seemed to pop up for sale that many thought lost forever. Though Reginald maintains his resources and contacts are just that skilled at locating needed product, one cannot wonder what the means involved are.
With his main operation on the island settlement of Torica, he continued to operate a now well known trading company, slightly shadowed by rumors of certain underhanded or shady dealings. Employing members of several human cultures and even some Eramere natives, his company was known to many traveling traders across the land. The company worked with mostly legitimate dealings; protection services, cargo transfers, locating of items and hired intermediaries. Despite this, the whispers in the shadows indicated that there were other services available for the right price.
It was also no secret that Reginald Skylar desired the title of Resani, taking several opportunities to discredit the West siblings. True, the title of Resani is a Lakoi tradition, and Reginald is of Halmorian upbringing, but his desire for respect in his later years fueled his efforts. With his connections he did much good for Torica since it's establishment, and several considered him to be a man of action. This however did not prove enough to the people that he deserved the credit more than the West siblings.
Reginald Skylar went missing one evening in the fall, after a particularly good day of trade. What is believed to be his body was found months later floating in the docks.
