Primordials

After arriving on Eramere, the humans of Halmoria found themselves confronted with all manner of creatures never seen before. While the Elves, Zvarkglar, Chorav, Orcs and Gnomes were certainly very strange, there are few words that might encompass in full the nature of the discovery of the Primordials, and the lesser Manifestations of the Beyond.

Bizarre, shamanistic, mysterious, alien, seductive and powerful, the Primordials are not creatures that can be taken lightly. While many Halmorians continue to believe that they too are myths, tales have trickled into the city speaking of encounters with these strange creatures that evoke terror, awe, wonder, fascination, and even bouts of insanity.

There are many theories over what the Primordials are exactly, however not one of these creatures seem to be similar to the last. Each of the new races discovered seem to have their own names for these alien creatures, and theories and observations abound on what they might be. It is noted that some may well be benign, while other explorers have reported horrible tales of other entities that may even devour your mind. No one seems to know what their goals or desires might be, or even if they have them. Debates continue as to their level of intelligence, although their level of awareness and magical nature is certainly unquestioned.

While the appearance of any Primordial can certainly be frightening, some brave souls have attempted to find out more about these creatures. Their study and experiments have lead to the recent discovery that there is another plane beyond this one and the realm of the Overseers. This plane has simply been termed "the Beyond". It appears that these Primordials are tied to both the Beyond, and the land itself here, though it is difficult to say for certain. A large number of other strange creatures have since been discovered, and have been termed Manifestations of the Beyond. They are differentiated from the Primordials by being much more numerous, are often (but not always) smaller in size, and appear to have much less power or presence. Many typically call them Manifestations, for simplicity.

Those of the non-human races take a much simpler approach to the Primordials, and the lesser manifestations, regardless of their own names for the creatures. Any one of them might easily tell a passing traveler that whatever the Primordials might be, they will need to be respected, unless you choose to earn their wrath.
