The Kutaran Empire

Capital: Kutar

Ruler: The Kassar, Turul Kuarnid

The Land

Much of Kutara is comprised of steppe plains with some scattered forests. In the northern part of Kutara are hills and smaller mountains wherein you'd find rich iron mines, while in the southern part is a tall and treacherous mountain range, with one toweringly huge mountain called the Skyhook. Cities and settlements are typically built outside of the interior in a rough ring, having initially been built as fortifications against invasion.

The People

The Kutaran Empire has as its roots a tribal and semi-nomadic culture. Over time, they have become quite civilized, building cities of various sizes, but they still do remain true to their roots. There are nine major tribes known as the Bairnid, Gherinai, Fhir, Amutad, Nirya, Bagadon, Chumad, and Saiman. The Imperial tribe is Kuarnid.

Within the interior steppe region, these tribes travel constantly and generally do not have any established holdings. Their rank within the cities are greatly influenced by the amount of livestock held on the steppes as well as success in skirmishes with other tribes.

Inter-tribe warfare is highly common, though they are not often heard to kill more than is necessary to win the battle. It is more common for the winning tribe to accept ransom from the losers, or to absorb or enslave the lesser tribe, as in accordance with their Imperial Code.

The Kutarans believe that their skills with a variety of crafts is exceptional and their art and poetry can rival any in the known world. Bards are highly recognized within the society for they can make a lonely night pass quickly and carry a hero’s life on past his death. So long as an individual can make a worthy contribution, he or she is precious. Those who do not contribute are not tolerated.
