Originally discovered during the initial expedition to High Reaches, the temple building was one of two that weathered the time of seclusion. When first explored the temple had a magnificent altar dedicated to the eight Overseers known throughout the realms located at the back of the temple. Though the temple seemed in pristine condition, the altar lay cold at first, however, due to the prayer of one of the early expeditions the altar came alive as each of the eight Overseers were venerated. Eight hauntingly blue flames roared to life and burned brightly for a time.

Weeks after the fall of Atalan the flames above the altar became weak and the altar itself became translucent and eventually flame and altar both vanished from existence. In the months following word spread that the eight Overseers that were assumed to be eternal had undergone a change and more than one schism. Numbering twelve now, the Overseers have changed from what they once were in the past for better or for worse. Concurrent with the change in the Overseers themselves new pillars of an altar began to appear within the center of the temple forming an inner circle of pillars for the old eight and an outer circle to represent the new twelve.

Over the span of twenty years the temple has adopted a philosophy of inclusion towards those of the faithful worship of the Overseers. Taking a step back from the more imperialistic views and actions of the House of Concordant Cycles, the Temple of the Hymn has become a place of learning and contemplation seeking to understand how the Overseers have changed and become more in tune with the world of the Overseers. Divorced from the arena of politics, the Temple of the Hymn attempts to create an atmosphere that is conducive to cooperation regardless of ones viewpoint or race. All are welcome within the Temple of the Hymn, but violence of any kind will not be tolerated between members or visiting guests.
