Torica, at times perhaps thought to have no laws, does indeed have some which are typically enforced by Brisco Bolstead, the town Sherrif. Below you will find those laws as outlined by Mayor Mayrie Mark'ilas.

  • No weapons to be drawn within the settlement unless in defense of the settlement. No magic use with the intent of causing harm.
  • No dragons, no giant snakes, no manifestations, no divine servants and no summons of any kind within the the settlement. Animal companions are not to be left unattended and are not to attack any citizen or risk being put down.
  • The Sheriff reserves the right to be able to deny access to anyone to the village for any reason. though generally people are given warnings before such a rule should be enforced
  • Failure to uphold the laws of the settlement will be dealt with by the sheriff
  • There are two types of crime that can be defined, minor or major. The Sheriff is the one who decides what category the crime comes under, and upon what the punishment for such will be issued.

Minor crimes include:

Theft
Robbery
Burglary
Assault
Public Disturbance
Indecent Exposure
Bribery
Resisting arrest

Major Crimes include:

Kidnapping
Murder within the settlement
Conspiracy to commit murder
Conspiracy to willingly commit an act that would endanger the settlement
Committing an act that endangers the safety of the settlement as a whole

Punishments:

Minor Crimes:
A beating (if the crimes very minor often given by the Sheriff there and then)
Fines with an amount dependent upon the crime and the past crime history of individual (most often used)
Community service till they pay back for the damages done (Mostly used upon repeat offenders and youths)
Imprisonment (often with a fine, no more than 2 RL days maximum)
Temporary Ban from the settlement (no more than a RL week and only in severe cases)

Major Crimes:
Imprisonment (no more than 7 RL days maximum, often with a hefty fine)
Permanent Ban from the settlement (very rarely given and will require the consent of the mayor for such)
