In mid 984IY, Atalan received news that Kalimvar had declared war on Halmoria.

Many citizens of Atalan were called upon to aid in the war efforts, and soon returned across the Thalassian Sea to return to Halmoria. The ships included much of the Atalan Legion, members of the HoCC, a number of skilled battle mages from the Academy, as well as a few adventurers seeking glory.

The fleet of the SPM was commandeered at the time to transport all of those needed to get to the warfront. This exchange also brought about a massive change to the Nobility of Atalan as the Von Atalans were ousted for their few results on behalf of the empire, for the recovering war hero Tobias von Strathorne.

Rumours then became scarce, before all arriving ships ceased, sending Atalan into an unheard of food crisis, set to peak in the winter of 985IY.

What was known, is that Kalimvar has taken wide swathes of land and was marching towards the capital. Valka was cut off by a large line of Kalimvarans blocking all passes south. And those of the Carphasian Coast became targeted by many both on the mainland and within Atalan as ships began to go missing from the work of Lakoi Pirates.

Reports came in at the end of the war in Autumn 987 IY, with the return of the few remaining ships and survivors.

Kalimvar had taken a number of Halmorian cities, as Kutara reclaimed the southern lands of Halmoria taken from them centuries ago - along with their iron mines.

As Kalimvar attacked Halmor directly, though, the Kutarans arranged a cease-fire a number of hours into the battle, for the two super-powers to talk. The Kutarans apparently believed through an Omen they had received, that should the two continue to battle, it would spell the end of the world.

Kalimvar reluctantly allowed Halmoria to keep their city, with a number of requests. However those in Atalan remained sketchy on the details even up to this day.
