Athera is a fierce woman, with dark blue eyes, and dirty blonde hair, which is often kept short and neat. Her hands bare the scars of a few battles, and she walks with a pronounced limp, which she corrects with a plain oak staff, no longer using the one once carried by her grandfather, Gralin Hovis.

While her father was more bookish, Athera certainly got the adventuring bug. Inspired by tales of her Grandfather's exploits, but not gifted with his natural talents Athera threw herself into the study of the arcane. She became quite the accomplished evoker, as well as a fairly decent swordswoman. Her confidence in the latter however led to a severe injury to her hip that was not tended too in time to prevent permanent damage. It left her with a limp, and the inability to have children, but did little to drain away her fire.

She once served in the High Reaches Militia with the rank of Lieutenant, and acted as their chief war wizard in times of conflict, though she has recently retired from that role. Rumors have been spread that she was eventually able to unlock even more power from the staff she once wielded than her Grandfather ever did, and has expanded on several of his unfinished projects as well. She is lauded for her work to create a magical null zone with the High Reaches Prison, which also acts to power several magical devices around the city of High Reaches.
