Dragons have always featured in myths and legends both on Eramere and the mainland. Some, benevolent, and others, causing destruction beyond imagining.

In the past, many have thought they had seen a dragon, though many times it was later determined that it had been a simple wyvern, or even a manticore. Debates rage still as to whether certain creatures underwater slain by adventurers were or were not a true dragon.

However, everything changed in the Summer 988IY/2841EC.

Tremors in the ground escalated to a massive earthquake that shook all of Atalan... and all of Eramere in fact.

The earthquake caused damage to both the Trade District and Docks District of Atalan in particular, but few spoke of the damage of the quake. Many instead reported seeing a cloud of flying creatures overhead, mostly to the west, with some south, of the city. The creatures were of all sizes and colours imaginable, from the smallest now termed drakes, and wyverns, to massive forms that can only be called dragons.

One such creature burnt the Frothing Otter to the ground before adventurers managed to slay the great beast. These creatures have since been reported in every corner of the continent, and have created a new and much larger threat within Eramere, and potentially abroad.

It has been seen that not all dragons remain hostile to humanoids, particularly during the Exodus to arrive at High Reaches, however the vast majority of dragons and drakes appear to be.
