Before the there was a House, there was a Hymn. Humanity agrees that it was started hundreds of years ago by a songstress favored by Lilianthe. She traveled the lands to see the world's splendor, urging those she met to show the Overseers how the world they wrought had inspired them. It was her wish for all the world to raise their voices at once, for Humanity to be united in song. Human cultures disagree on the songstress' name, appearance, and origin; there are also arguments regarding the time of her prolific journey.

Despite these disagreements and though the songstress is long dead, she is closer to her wish than ever before. The Hymn became a tradition much like Humanity itself - distinct at a glance, but ultimately facets of the same whole. In modern times, the Hymn has diversified. Many still praise the Overseers with song, however, other artistic talents such as writing, acting, playing an instrument, painting, and sculpting are considered part of the Hymn. The Hymn's integrity is preserved not by style but by Humanity praising the Overseers together.
