The Severance
In 3025 ER two events occurred that sent shockwaves across Eramere, and in fact the world. Firstly, a large explosion occurred, destroying much of High Reaches, and killing nearly everyone in and around the city. Secondly, and far more profound was The Severance that followed, a diminishing, almost muting of the Hymn throughout the wide world. Clerics, and those that had come to be called Warsancts were unable to reach their prospective Overseers in prayer, the soft gentle presence of the Hymn always in their mind now silent. Bards, those highly attuned to the song of the Overseers were still able to grasp it, though they too do so with some trouble at times. Those of the Spiritual, and Natural domains too could still access the divine spark with their connection to the natural world, or the spiritual process of Life and Death.
Reactions
The exact cause of this Severance is unknown, though the coincidence of the destruction of High Reaches at the same time is too much for most to ignore. Many theories have arisen, most blaming the Halmorians, though some have turned to bitterness toward the Overseers for what they see as abandonment. Worship of the Overseers continues to be an important aspect of most peoples lives, even though the frequency of 'miracles' has been greatly reduced. Attempts to rebuild the connection to the Overseers have as of thus far failed, though whether that is because it is impossible, or if those attempting simply did not have the required dedication and fortitude is unknown. For now society has had time to adjust, and many have come to realize that they can live full and productive lives, even without the Overseers' help.
