Gender: Male
Age: 60
David was born within High Reaches in the first years after the fall of Atalan. His parents were simple cobblers, who continued their business after settling within High Reaches. David was always a rambunctious man, often getting into trouble from his lack of wanting to stand still. Along with his resistance to wanting to stay in one place for any length of time, David was also incredibly curious which only added to his troubles. David exasperated his parents and many of the members of High Reaches, but the chaos of the first decade of the settlement led to David being mostly ignored and overlooked, regardless of how many times he seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
One fateful day, David happened upon some older kids picking on a Valkshir boy named Olkin. Though taller and bigger than the boys picking on him, Olkin was outnumbered and seemed to be holding back. David sprang into action and went about evening the score. Carefully, David managed to loop three of the boys with a loose rope around their ankles while they surrounded Olkin. Unluckily for the three boys the rope was attached to a horse that David caused to gallop off, tripping the three and managing to drag one of them a short distance. Olkin took advantage of the distraction and knocked the other two on their asses before he and David disappeared in the small alleys between houses.
As is the case in such situations, the two became fast friends. Olkin became a stabilizing influence on David, as the Valkshir child was much more deliberate and focused, and David added a bit of chaos into Olkin's preferred orderliness. Through the rest of their respective childhoods Olkin and David were never far apart, and often Olkin would drag David into the farmlands and beyond where they would camp and enjoy each others company. The addition of Olkin to David's life had such a calming effect that David began to be able to focus all of his considerable energy onto a single task. Often the two boys would use David's skill to cause a bit of mischief, but other times David would use it to help his friend hunt, or design a better fishing pole. David found that given his smaller size and his ability to focus he could pass without a trace when he focused hard enough. Such skill made him an excellent scout, which is part of why he and Olkin eventually joined the Field Force of the Militia.
The two made an excellent team and were often sent out on long term reconnaissance. During one of their patrols the two ran into a Nildervaga hunting party. Both groups were stunned momentarily before snapping into action. Olkin managed to take down two of the five member hunting party within the first few moments. Unfortunately the tide of the battle quickly shifted back in the Nildervaga's favor as the three remaining members flew into a berserker rage. Olkin and David were hard pressed to hold their own, and the dense forest they were traveling through was the only thing saving them as the Nildervaga berserkers could not surround them. David was running low on arrows and Olkin had taken a number of severe cuts, the outcome was becoming certain. Both Olkin and David knew that the tide was turning and that it was only a matter of time before Olkin fell and the remaining warriors swarmed David. Deciding there was a better way, Olkin took the only course left to him. Flying into his own rage he managed to hamstring all three warriors while allowing all three berserkers to run him through. Olkin managed one last look at David and attempted to shout at him to run but all that came out was a faint gurgle of blood as he fell into the blood soaked leaves of the forest floor.
David did what he was best at and disappeared from sight as the three berserkers tried to hunt him down and finish the job, but between their useless legs and David's ability to hide the Nildervaga had to abandon their search, eventually coming out of their rage and requiring time to recover. As they recovered they stripped Olkin of his clothes to use as bandages before setting out for their camp. The second night, as they camped David finally made his move and killed the three Nildervaga as two of them slept and the other stood guard. Having avenged his friend he returned and buried Olkin within the forest floor before making his way back to High Reaches to warn them of the Nildervaga activity, and report his friend's death.
After the passing of Olkin, David became more somber and morose often wandering the wilderness alone for weeks at a time. David's skill at remaining unseen even against Syl'vae eyes allowed him to warn High Reaches many times of approaching danger that might have otherwise killed observant scouts and earned him the rank of Lieutenant. David prefers his own company and often communicates with hand gestures rather than spoken words if the situation allows for it.
