Your First Login
After connecting to Myths of Atalan and downloading all applicable files, you will need to create your character.
We recommend reading applicable posts within this wiki on the Overseers your character will follow, the location he or she comes from, the class you are choosing, and their particular race. Note that some traditional classes may have some lore alterations within this world.
Starting as a Human
**IMPORTANT NOTE ** For new human characters, it is rare that humans arrive from the mainland. Most humans have lived on Eramere their entire lives at this point. The largest populations of humans have grown up in High Reaches or Free Torica, but there are a few smaller frontier settlements elsewhere. To play other humans it is recommended to touch base with a DM first (mainland Halmorians, Kalimvarans, Kutarans, or Kael'Higor Valkshir).
Each race of humans has its own unique history and traits that will influence your character significantly. A few pointers
- Erameran humans are the most common humans you will meet in game. They have descended from the three common human races below, and are now most often mixed race humans. In High Reaches, your grandparents or great-grandparents were most likely Valkshir mixed with some Halmorian, or possibly Lakoi. In Torica however, there is a much higher instance of Lakoi ancestry.
- Halmorians typically have dark hair, and russet to olive colored skin. Their names most often are drawn from Roman and English influences, with some Italian last names as well. They are somewhat shorter than other races.
- Valkshir have pale skin with blonde or red hair. Their names are often Scandinavian, Norse, Old English, and similar variants. They do not use tattoos, and they are tall and strong. 99% of Valkshir in Eramere belong to three main clans: the Vaedros in High Reaches is the most common, but seldom recognized any longer, followed by the very traditional Kael'higor of the Frostbeards, and lastly the scourge of Eramere, the Nildervaga.
- Lakoi have olive skin tones, and red to dark coloured hair (unless it is dyed in any number of available colours). The Lakoi use tattoos, and their names are often inspired by seafaring or gypsy races. They are of average height and a slim build.
- Obelisk Touched - when playing an Obelisk Touched, you will need to decide one of the above races as your heritage. Your skin tone and hair colour will be lighter than typical of that race, though your height should be within their norms.
Starting as a Non-Human
To start as a non-human, you can simply login and create one. However in order to gain extra benefits, the following is recommended:
- Send a quick PM to a Senior DM, who can unlock your race-appropriate forum for you.
- Once you post in that forum (in the active players thread/PC bio thread), DMs can give you your key for your race-appropriate store for goodies in game, and your starting reputation for that race.
- Note there is a maximum of faction forums open to any player at DM discretion, which does include racial forums.

- Lastly once the bio is approved you will be able to receive your feat necessary to get in-game from a General or Senior DM, along with your starting reputation.

The Next Step
Where do you go from here?
Stock up on supplies in the High Reaches market place or your home city markets. There are a number of areas where people congregate, in particular, the High Reaches market area, or within your home city. We recommend finding a few others interested in traveling with you to adventure out, as there is safety in numbers.
Good places for beginners looking to adventure include:
- Your race's starting area's cave or applicable area. This will always be accessible from your home town, not the Overland Map.
- For humans, the mines in High Reaches is one of the first accessible level appropriate areas, as is the sewers and farmlands.
- The Amalthean Coast will also be a good place for groups to investigate.
- In every city there are npcs looking for aid - speak with them for quests that may or may not involve combat.
Your map will display the roleplay areas in blue and the combat areas in red, along with the intended starting level (which will most often rise with each transition depending on the map, so be careful!).
Another consideration will be which organization might hold promise for your character. These factions and organizations hold real political, financial, religious and educational power within this world, and can greatly aid in your character's development and progression. We recommend finding an organization that fits both your character's personality and goals.
