Manifestations are the name of all creatures that are said to come from the Beyond directly or indirectly, and those created by imagination to mimic them. The name manifestation however, does not apply to any Primordials, which are not believe to have been created the same way, nor are they in the same class as mere manifestations. Before the fall of Atalan there were over 3,700 different forms of manifestations seen and recorded by members of the Obsidian Academy.
It is theorized that arcane summoning draws upon energy of the Beyond in greater quantities than typically observed in other spells, which is then shaped by the caster's imagination. Perhaps in this process, they even link to a specific form of creative energy unique to the individual spell, for as each manifestation is completely unique in very bizarre ways, many have some vague similarities to each other when the exact same spell is used between different casters.
More dangerous by far however are manifestations that appear to have no caster to create and control them, termed native manifestations by some. These appear to either enter this realm, or are somehow created in a similar process as arcane summoning but through a portal or rift leading from the Beyond itself. These portals or rifts are typically avoided by all natives of Eramere, including in some cases the native wildlife.
The city of Atalan itself now appears to be a permanent home for many of these rifts, drawing manifestations in of all sizes, shapes, and power.
Arcane Eyes
Arcane Eyes are not directly a manifestation, nor a creature, but do deserve a notation here. An arcane sensor created by energy of the beyond and the will of the caster, they enable the caster to perceive things they would otherwise be unable to witness.
They are undetectable by normal means, and are usually small enough that only those of keen eyes will do so while employing unconventional means to detect them.
Perhaps of some relief to some, these eyes are incapable of perceiving sound.
((OOC - you are NOT aware of them simply because you happen to mouse over the eye while in game. If you are uncertain if you can detect it, just ask a DM!))
