Name: Alandra Hertaemus
Gender: Female
Lived: 897 IY – 968 IY
Location: Halmoria
Titles: Leeya’s Maiden, The Kindest Caretaker
Bio: Alandra was a humble priest of Leeya in her mid-20’s when her father became afflicted with an unknown disease. She looked to all her teachers and the most skilled physicians in the land, but none could solve the mystery of her father’s disease. Hearing isolated reports of similar symptoms, Alandra set about creating a hospital of unprecedented proportions, rivaling the palace in size. She used any and all available connections she could find, specifically promising to take in the children and relatives of wealthy nobility afflicted with serious conditions, receiving generous donations in return. Her life’s work took her well over 30 years to accomplish, but she succeeded.
Ultimately, her father was not cured of his illness, and it slowly whittled away his mind, costing him his ability to think clearly. Alandra prayed night and day, and on the day construction was completely finished, any available part of the building having already been in use for years, her father spoke to her with clear reasoning. As they spoke, he stated that he was proud of her work, but that his time had come. He said that Leeya had been pleased at her kindness and diligent care in nurturing the ill. Lastly, he is said to have given her an amulet which he claimed was bestowed on him by Leeya herself to deliver unto Alandra.
Many dismissed it as the ravings of a delusional patient with a terminal illness. Regardless of whether it is true, the fact remains that after the event, Alandra worked more tirelessly than ever, always wearing her amulet and delivering a noticeable increase in cured patients. Even now, “Leeya’s Mercy” stands in the capital, still treating the seriously ill, as a testament to Alandra’s enduring legacy.
